What Is Tooth Decay?





Tooth decay (caries) is a DISEASE!  It is 100% PREVENTABLE!
 
It is a pH specific disease that has the ability to DECALCIFIES (the removal of Calcium) the tooth's structure by producing acid.


 

WHAT IS CAUSING THE INFECTION?

 

 

Caries (tooth decay) is mainly caused by a biofilm(plaque). This biofilm consists of +- 23 strains of bacteria and some fungi. A specific bacterium called STEPTOCOCCUS MUTANS* is the main culprit that is present in the BIOFILM
This is a typical infection like Tuberculosis and without Streptococcus Mutans, tooth decay CAN'T OCCUR.

      Other smaller numbers include Lactobacillus species
