Resin Veneers Maintenance
Resin veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made shells crafted from high-quality composite resin. These thin layers of composite resin are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth, effectively improving appearance by masking imperfections.
They can correct issues such as discoloration, chips, gaps, and misalignment, giving you a flawless smile.
The best part? When cared for properly, these veneers can last for several years, keeping your smile bright and beautiful.
A) Daily Care for Your Resin Veneers
1. Brush and Floss Regularly:
Just like natural teeth, resin veneers require a daily oral hygiene routine. Brush your teeth at least twice a day using a soft-bristled toothbrush and non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste. Don’t forget to floss daily! This helps prevent plaque buildup around the veneers and ensures the health of your gums.
2. Rinse with Antibacterial Mouthwash:
Boost your oral health by rinsing with an antibacterial mouthwash. This will help eliminate bacteria that brushing alone might miss, keeping your foam healthy and your veneers sparkling!
3. Avoid Abrasive Products:
Abrasives such as charcoal toothpaste, smoker formula whitening toothpaste and even brushing your teeth with bicarb powder are out. The rough particles in these products will scratch the surface of the composite veneer, allowing staining to collect faster and lose its glossy appearance.
* Stick to using regular normal toothpaste or an everyday whitening toothpaste for your everyday dental hygiene routine.
B) Avoid Staining foods and drinks
Your diet plays a significant role in the longevity of your resin veneers.
A) Limit Staining Foods and Drinks:
While you don’t need to cut out favorites like coffee and red wine completely, be mindful of consumption. Rinse your mouth with water after you enjoy these beverages.
B) Steer Clear of Hard Foods:
To prevent chips or fractures, avoid chewing on hard items like ice, hard candies, or popcorn kernels. If you love nuts or crunchy snacks, consider cutting them into smaller pieces.
C) Protect your Veneers or Resin Work
Composite dental veneers look great but are not as strong as your own natural enamel.
If you grind your teeth or clench your jaws, consider wearing a night guard or Biteplate at night (or during the day). If you find night guards bulky or you are not a heavy teeth grinder, ask your dentist to make a set of orthodontic retainers that can also offer some protection against accidental chipping.
D) Recognizing Wear and Tear
Despite your best efforts, wear and tear will happen over time. If you notice any chips, discoloration, or general dullness, contact your dentist. We may be able to polish your veneers or recommend refinishing options to ensure your smile remains vibrant and full of life.
E) Schedule Regular Dental Check-ups
One of the best ways to ensure the longevity of your resin veneers is to visit your dentist regularly. Generally, biannual check-ups are recommended. During these visits, the dentist can professionally clean your veneers to maintain their shine, check for any signs of wear or damage and finally restore any possibly chipping you might get from time to time.
Your teeth are JEWELS and not TOOLS! Treat them that way. Don't use your teeth to open things or even worst... to bite your nails. | ||
