Tongue piercing – Gaps and bad breath!

Tongue piercing can lead to nasty habits that can end up causing you thousands of rands to restore!
Dentists are seeing an alarming amount of tongue and mouth piercings that lead to all sorts of dental problems.

Despite the multiple risks associated with tongue piercings – including infection, fractured teeth, blood loss, nerve damage and abscess formation – the practice remains a popular fashion statement!

Gaps develop!
One of the most common problems associated with tongue piercings is gap formation between front teeth.
The ring or stud often gets pushed against the teeth that could lead to drifting and gap formation. This habit is extremely difficult to break once establish and dental problems then usually happen.

The barbell is never removed, because the tongue is so vascular that removal of the stud will lead to closure of the wound. This explains why the teeth can easily drift apart as almost no time is allowed for the lip to push the teeth back again.

Bad Breath
Another big problem with piercings is halitosis(or bad breath!).
Dental plaque easily builds up around these piercings and lead to bad breath if not dealt with properly.

‘The best way to protect your pearly whites and smell fresh 24/7 is to stay clear of any mouth or tongue piercings.
